PEPPOL project is a pilot project, funded by the EU, and implemented by a consortium of public entities from 12 European Countries, with the goal to create EU-wide interoperable public eProcurement solutions by the end of 2011.
In order to allow interoperability, the project will agree on and implement a number of standards, defined jointly with a standardization workshop run by CEN, called CEN Business Interoperability Interface.
Since the pilot start in May 2008, Consip has been performing (on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance) the day-to-day coordination of the five Italian institutions that take part to the project, acting as collection point of information to and from the Consortium Coordinator.
The main -in terms of effort- task performed by Consip is the management of the eCatalogue work group, in which 13 institutions from 10 countries take part. The activities focus on the design, the implementation and real-life testing of a solution to enhance interoperability of eProcurement systems used by suppliers and contracting authorities.
